چکیده
1010-7940/$ — see front matter # 2009 European Association for Cardio-Thoracic doi:10.1016/j.ejcts.2009.06.036 Listerial endocarditis is uncommon, but potentially destructive. Fifteen years after mitral valve replacement, a 67-year-old male without co-morbidities developed hyperacute shock (white blood cell count = 38.750 ml ) following a mildly febrile period with normal echocardiograms. Trans-oesophageal echocardiography showed a flail prosthesis (Fig. 1). Surgery consisted of valve re-replacement and pericardial annular reinforcement.

Successful treatment of Listeria monocytogenes prosthetic valve endocarditis using rifampicin and benzylpenicillin in combination with valve replacement
Introduction.Listeria monocytogenes is an uncommon cause of prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE). Recommended antimicrobial therapy typically includes intravenous β-lactams with or without synergistic aminoglycosides. In vitro studies have previously identified antagonism when rifampicin has been used in combination with β-lactams. However, in vivo data of rifampicin use are limited despite its ...
متن کاملLower extremity mycotic aneurysm in a patient with Listeria monocytogenes – associated prosthetic valve endocarditis
Introduction.Listeria monocytogenes is a rare etiology of infectious endocarditis with only 30 cases of prosthetic valve and about twice as many native valve infections described in the literature. We describe an unusual presentation of an endovascular embolic phenomenon with associated lower extremity mycotic aneurysm due to Listeria monocytogenes prosthetic aortic valve and aortic endograft i...
متن کاملProsthetic valve endocarditis caused by multidrug-resistant Candida albicans in a patient with myelodysplasia syndrome: A case report and literature review
Background and Purpose: Candida endocarditis is an infrequent disease with a high mortality rate, which commonly occurs in immunosuppressed patients with cardiac valve replacement. We reported a 70-year-old woman diagnosed with Candida prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE). This study also involved a review of all published cases of Candida PVE from 1970. Case report: Herein, we reported a 70-ye...
متن کاملListeria Endocarditis: A Diagnostic Challenge
A 74-year-old hemodialysis patient with a history of an atrial septum defect closure, coronary bypass surgery, and a St. Jude aortic prosthetic valve was diagnosed with pneumonia and volume overload. Blood cultures were positive for Listeria monocytogenes, and amoxicillin was given for 2 weeks. Immediately after discontinuation of amoxicillin, fever relapsed. Transthoracic and transesophageal e...
متن کاملMolecular evidence of Listeria monocytogenes infection relapse in a severe case of endocarditis
Introduction. Endocarditis is a rare complication of bacteraemia due to Listeria monocytogenes and is characterized by a high fatality rate (37-50 %). Recurrent infection by Listeria monocytogenes occurs even more rarely. Case presentation. We report a case of recurrent Listeria monocytogenes infection that resulted in severe endocarditis in a 66-year-old patient with an aortic valve prosthesis...
